Why This Recipe Is So Tasty
Cooking Secrets
- Let the steak rest for a few minutes after cooking to keep it juicy.
- Add a splash of beef broth or water if the gravy becomes too thick while simmering.
Step 1
Lightly heat your oven to 350°F (175°C). In a small bowl, mix together sea salt, garlic salt, black pepper, brown sugar, powdered honey, cayenne, and red pepper flakes to create a flavorful spice rub. Take about 2 tablespoons of this mix and rub it all over the steak, making sure it’s well coated.
Step 2
Heat some oil in a large oven-safe skillet over medium-high heat. Toss in the onions first and cook them until they start to turn translucent, about 3 minutes. Then add the bell peppers and mushrooms, cooking everything together until the veggies are nice and tender, another 3 minutes or so.
Step 3
Push the veggies aside to clear a spot in the middle of the skillet and place the seasoned steak there. Let it cook without moving it until it browns on one side, around 3 to 4 minutes, then flip it over. Pour some water into the skillet and cover it tightly with aluminum foil.
Step 4
Pop the whole skillet into the oven and let it cook until the steak is so tender it easily falls apart when poked with a fork—this usually takes about 45 minutes to an hour.
