Why This Dish Is So Special
Kitchen Tricks
- Chill the trifle for at least a few hours before serving to let the flavors meld.
- Layer ingredients gently to keep the berries intact and create a pretty presentation.
Step 1
Place the cake cubes in the bottom of a trifle bowl. In a large measuring cup, dissolve the raspberry gelatin in 1 cup of boiling water, then stir in 1 cup of cold water. Pour this mixture over the cake cubes and gently press down. Spread the raspberries evenly on top, then pop the whole thing in the fridge to chill until the gelatin is set, about 45 minutes.
Step 2
Whisk together one package of pudding mix with 2 cups of cold milk for a couple of minutes until smooth. Spread this pudding layer over the raspberries and put the trifle back in the fridge to set for another 45 minutes.
Step 3
Now, dissolve the cherry gelatin in 1 cup of boiling water, add 1 cup of cold water, and pour it over the pudding. Scatter the cherries on top and chill again until the gelatin firms up, about 45 minutes.
Step 4
Whisk the remaining pudding mix with 2 cups of cold milk, just like before, and spread it over the cherries. Let it set in the fridge for about 45 minutes.
Step 5
Finally, dissolve the strawberry gelatin in 1 cup of boiling water, stir in 1 cup of cold water, and pour it over the pudding layer. Arrange the strawberries on top, then chill the trifle until everything is completely set, which should take about an hour.
Step 6
Before serving, spread whipped topping all over the top and sprinkle with the reserved berries for a festive finish.
