What Makes This Recipe So Great
Kitchen Tricks
- Use room temperature eggs for better mixing.
- Don’t overbake; check with a toothpick to keep them soft and chewy.
Step 1
Warm your oven to 350°F (175°C) and greasing an 11x7-inch baking dish. In a bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt, then set it aside for now.
Step 2
Melt the butter in a saucepan over medium heat. Keep it moving by swirling the pan until it turns a beautiful golden brown, starts bubbling, and smells nutty—this should take about 3 to 5 minutes. Take it off the heat and let it cool for a few minutes.
Step 3
In a mixing bowl, beat the browned butter together with the brown sugar until the mixture is light and fluffy. Add the eggs one at a time, making sure each one is fully incorporated before adding the next. Stir in the vanilla extract.
Step 4
Now gently fold the flour mixture into the wet ingredients, just until everything is combined. Toss in the walnuts and chocolate chips and mix them through. Spread the batter evenly into your prepared pan.
Step 5
Pop it in the oven and bake for about 35 to 40 minutes, until the top looks dry and the edges start to pull away from the sides. Once it’s out, let it cool completely before cutting into 18 squares. If you like, sprinkle a little powdered sugar on top before serving.
