What Makes This Recipe Special
Helpful Chef Tips
- Cook bacon until crispy but not burnt to add the best texture and flavor.
- Let the burgers rest for a few minutes after cooking to keep them juicy.
Step 1
Cook the bacon in a large skillet over medium-low heat, turning it now and then until it’s nicely browned, which should take about 5 minutes. Once done, drain the bacon on some paper towels and set it aside. While that’s happening, preheat your grill to medium heat—aim for around 300 to 325 degrees Fahrenheit—and give the grate a light oiling to keep things from sticking.
Step 2
Divide your ground beef into quarter-pound portions. In a bowl, mix the cooked bacon bits with chopped green onions, then press this mixture into both sides of each beef portion until it’s evenly incorporated. Shape everything into patties. Sprinkle garlic salt and black pepper on both sides, and don’t forget to press a little indentation in the center of each patty—that’s where the steak sauce will go.
Step 3
Place the burgers on the grill and spoon about half a tablespoon of steak sauce into each indentation. Let them cook for about 5 minutes before flipping. After flipping, add another half tablespoon of steak sauce to the center, then top each burger with a slice of Cheddar. Grill for another 4 minutes or so, until the cheese melts and the burgers reach an internal temperature of 160 degrees Fahrenheit.
Step 4
While the burgers are finishing up, throw your hamburger buns on the grill to toast them lightly. When everything’s ready, take the burgers and buns off the grill and put your burgers together. Enjoy!
